How To Get Started

For those you just want to get up there and have a go then an introductory flight is you. Contact a provider and book your flight. Easy, anyone can do it.

If you want to take it a step further then microlight flight is easily achieved by joining one of the local clubs. The requirement for the private pilots licence is 25 hours minimum flying experience with a qualified flying instructor. Pass a number of exams and way you go.

Is It Easy?

Is It Expensive?

To sample Microlighting a 30 minute introductory flying lesson will cost around £70.

Flying was expensive in the past and indeed can still be, but with microlighting in Northern Ireland it can now be done reasonably cheap. The first expense is the licence and in general can cost in the region of £2,500 over a period if you wish (1 or 2 years). The next expense would be the aircraft and this you can buy from as little as £3000 up to £50,000 it’s your choice. Several clubs have aircraft syndicates which can share the cost of aircraft hangerage etc. This really brings the cost of flying and operating the aircraft down.
