How To Get Started
Making contact with a club is probably the easiest way to get involved in model flying. If there is a model shop near you they will direct you to your nearest club or check out the list of clubs listed in "activity providers".
Is It Easy?
Flying a model plane safely is an acquired disciplined skill, and generally beginners learn from very experienced members in a club. The basic controls which enable a model plane to fly are the same as those of the full size airliner.
Also there is an element of maintenance involved in model flying. Typically you will spend a lot more time maintaining your plane on the ground than flying it.
Is It Expensive?
Typically you will have to pay for club membership (which often means you get insurance cover) as well as purchase your own plane. A beginner may wish to purchase a plane second hand or buy a kit and build it.
