The club offers flying training for beginners or advanced pilots at one of the finest soaring sites in these islands. Located between Limavady and Benone in a beautiful setting beneath the cliffs of Binevenagh on the shores of Lough Foyle. Soaring pilots come from Britain and elsewhere to enjoy the excellent soaring in all seasons of the year and which have permitted cross-country flights over much of Ireland and ascents of more than 22,000 ft.
Train in a two-seat dual-control glider flying over the scenic north coast. No previous experience is necessary to begin learning to fly in gliders and our membership embraces people of all backgrounds, from teenage students to pensioners in their seventies.
The club welcomes anyone who wishes to sample gliding. The sport is suitable for male and female members of any age however the design of the two-seat gliders allows a maximum weight of 103 kg or 227 lbs (16 Stone 3 lbs) per occupant. Young people are welcome however they must be physically large enough to be able to reach the controls of the glider in order to benefit from a lesson.
Trial lessons without appointment are available on most Saturdays and Sundays and bank holidays.
The club is affiliated to the British Gliding Association (BGA) and operates in accordance with the requirements of the BGA and the Air Navigation Order.
The Ulster Gliding Centre offers places on one & two-day training courses. These will normally be held on a Saturday & Sunday. The courses will include instructional flights with a fully qualified BGA gliding Instructor in a two-seater dual controlled glider. In addition, the courses will cover all aspects of ground handling together with an introduction to other subjects as appropriate.
